Fashion on Wheels

Kelly Sue, Fashion on Wheels & SUE

It all started by the project 'Fashion on Wheels’ in 2014. This project was broadcasted on national Dutch TV with the goal to raise awareness to the fact there is a lack of comfortable and fashionable clothing for wheelchair users. The assignment for this competition was; Design stylish and comfortable fashion for wheelchair users. Kelly Sue joined this project along with 24 others. She did her research and interviewed people bounded to a wheelchair and started to design a comfy, fashionable and classic collection. Her dedication and effort paid off, she won this contest and decided to continue with designing adapted fashion and made a promise to raise awareness for diversity; Everyone should join in, no exceptions. A year later she started SUE.

SUE is one of the first fashion brands whom designs affordable, fashionable clothing for wheelchair users. With stylish clothing in the seated position Sue hopes to give back comfort and confidence to here customer. Sue wants to focus on the person, not the wheelchair.

Quote: "I am in a wheelchair, It's not who I am, it's just how I get around.”

Besides the development of adapted fashion, Sue also want to pay close attention to diversity in the fashion industry and a more overall realistic social picture; People come in so many shapes, ages, colors and sizes, but where are they? They don’t get represented in the magazines, TV, fashion industry, etc. SUE is going to change this!
